R4WH National Team Rider
Lakeland, Florida
Registered Nurse and Licensed Midwife
If you don’t find Marianne at her home in Lakeland Florida, she is catching babies at Labor of Love Birth Center or riding her bike around Polk County.
Marianne will celebrate her 50th birthday just one month before the start of this ride. She is married 27 years to her husband Keith, a clinical engineer with Boston Scientific. She has three children, James, a teacher in NYC, Ian, a musician in Tallahassee, Fl, and Alison a high school senior.
"I started cycling 3 years ago as a way to get fit. I soon became addicted to the sport and joined PABA (Polk Area Bicycle Association). I have met many people who have been transformed by cycling. My friends in PABA have inspired me as well as teaching me to be a safe rider."
Marianne has worked in healthcare her entire adult life, from high school as a nurse’s aid to cardiovascular nursing and then Midwifery career. After nine years working as an independent midwife in a busy birthing center she is ready for a sabbatical. What better way than to combine her new found passion for cycling with her commitment to woman’s health?
"I see great disparity in the way healthcare dollars are used in our country. More technology does not always translate into better care. The Ride for World Health, through its beneficiaries, is helping to narrow the gap in healthcare."
