R4WH National Team Rider
Lima, Peru
Brigham Young University
I was born in Lima, Peru and moved to Miami, Florida with my mom and two sisters
almost 15 years ago. I've had 6 bikes in my life, 4 of which got
stolen.
I completed my undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University
in Provo, Utah. I was introduced to global health by an exceptional
mentor and friend a few years into college.
In the summer of 2004, I traveled to Bolivia to assist in a health study. We biked down the "most dangerous road in the world" to Coroico. I then traveled to
Thailand and volunteered with a wheelchair foundation for a month. A great biker and friend encouraged me to bike across the country. It
was an unforgettable, challenging, spiritual experience.
Last summer I
traveled to India where I designed and implemented a health study at a
local non-profit organization in South India. I traveled across the
country studying major religions of the world, returned to South East
Asia and biked across Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos.
Currently I live in Arizona and work at the International Rescue Committee conducting community
outreach to identify victims of human trafficking - modern day
slavery. I want to return to school to earn a Masters in Public
Health.
I like seeing the world on a bike. I think this ride is a
great opportunity to raise awareness about the many health issues in
our world, and a good way to get back in shape and heal a broken
heart. We all benefit! It's as simple as picking up a bike!
