My name is Katie Beck.  I am a fourth year medical student at OSU.  I grew up in Wyoming... not the state; a small suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio.  While my major interests in high school were art and math, I majored in Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

During college, I studied abroad in Kenya, which sparked my interest in international health, and random athletic acts such as climbing mountains and being chased by warthogs in the Serengeti.

During medical school, I was the volunteer coordinator for the Columbus Free Clinic, a student run clinic near the OSU campus.  I also had the opportunity to study health care in southern India

I am so excited for this ride because it is a great opportunity not only to have the great experience of biking across the country with 20 strangers, but it also provides an opportunity to learn more about the delivery of health care and what people across the country think of the state of health care across the world.

This spring I hope to match in Plastic Surgery.  While to most, that doesn’t seem like the medical field most likely to win the award of, “Most likely to save the world”, I look forward to working in a creative field of medicine and spending part of my time as a surgeon working with charitable surgery organizations here and abroad.
