R4WH Director of Logistics / National Team Rider
The Ohio State University College of Medicine
Columbus, OH
I’m Ellen Acree, a third year medical student at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Born and raised in Columbus, I attended Bexley High School and then went on to Carleton College in Minnesota where I got my Bachelor’s in Linguistics. Unable to stay away for long, I came back to OSU for medical school and immediately got hooked on global health. I was the co-president of the International Health Interest Group during my Med 1 year and then traveled to Zambia during the summer between Med 1 and Med 2. There, I volunteered in a daycare for HIV positive children and worked on a research project, which examined the role of resource limitations on occupational stress in HIV/AIDS nursing. I’m planning a trip to India next year to volunteer in a small hospital near the Himalayas.
Now, I’m the director of Logistics for the 2009 R4WH and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this tremendous project. To carry this forward for the fourth year in a row is a true honor. While I’m may be sorely lacking in biking skills (no pun intended), I’m more than ready for the challenge and excitement of the year ahead.
After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in Medicine/Pediatrics and one day, Infectious Diseases. Global health is a hugely important part of my career and personal goals and the R4WH is an integral part of this journey.
Catch ya on the fly!
