Alissa Gilbert

R4WH Director of Public Relations & Marketing / National Team Rider
The Ohio State University College of Medicine
Uniontown, OH

My name is Alissa. I am originally from Uniontown, OH (small town between Akron and Canton), moved to Columbus for undergrad at OSU, and have been a Buckeye ever since. My route to medicine wasn’t exactly a direct one. I majored in Art History and Italian before deciding during my “first senior year” of college that medicine was the field for me.

I was drawn to medicine by a desire to make a difference and help others and feel that advocacy is crucial to the field of medicine. My current interests include global health and access to quality healthcare in urban centers. I can’t wait for the opportunity to take part in this ride – not only to teach about issues in world health but also to learn from the experiences, opinions, and beliefs of all the many wonderful people I am sure we will meet across the country.

My previous athletic endeavors include ski racing, climbing… and well that’s about it. While before I signed up for this ride I couldn’t run a mile, I’m working on it! Might I be crazy… maybe… but I think most of my friends and family agree I have just enough stubbornness in me to pull this thing off!
