Proceeds from the 2006 Ride for World Health benefit Partners in Health (PIH), a global non-profit organization that strives to be an antidote to despair by bringing the benefits of modern medical science to those in greatest need. PIH draws on the resources of the world’s elite medical and academic institutions and on the experience of the world’s poorest and sickest communities to combat such global health crises as HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
Partners in Health brings an innovative, community-based model developed in rural Haiti to poor communities around the world. Fostering long-term partnerships within these communities, PIH supports positive change through comprehensive programs that link external funding of medical care and supplies to training programs that empower communities to treat and prevent oppressive, epidemic disease.
