TellURide
Today was an event day, which means every rider gets the day off. We were all looking forward to this day because we heard such great things about Telluride. The day before we rode 60 miles from Dolores, CO. It was one of the prettiest rides so far. We rode uphill for about 50 miles. At times, the mountains and valleys were playing tricks on me because I thought we were going downhill. However, riding along side the Dolores River and seeing the current move in the opposite direction confirmed that uphill was where we were going. We reached a max elevation of 10,400 feet. Biking through the mountains was beautiful! The downhill through Lizard Head Pass was a fun reward after all that climbing. Some people hit speeds up to 50mph! The city itself has a lot of character and is a ski town. During the off season it was very quite. One of our members, Skylar, is in high school and she missed her senior prom. So we threw her a little prom of our own in one of the condos we were staying in! It was hopefully a memorable night for her. During our event day we spoke to an elementary school, K-5th grade. Our first topic was an inspirational presentation given my 6 of our riders. We each spoke about ourselves, struggles, and accomplishments and hoped to give kids some motivation to reach their goals in life. We also gave presentations on having a healthy life and nutrition. Overall the kids were very attentive and very very knowledgeable. We are throughouly surprised and impressed with the families in Telluride. The rest of the day was spent running errands, laundry, tuning up bikes etc. I was able to go on a 3 hour hike to the Bridal Veil waterfall, which is the longest free falling waterfall in Colorado. It was really breathtaking. The people, food, landscape...pretty much everything about Telluride met our expectations and more!
