Blowin' in the wind

Yesterday I was on crew, which meant I was driving one of our vehicles. And at every stop, all the riders would complain about the wind. Today I rode and I was one of the riders complaining about the wind. Hills and winds are definitely (obviously?) the worst part about biking. One good thing about hills though is that they make my thighs burn so much that I stop thinking about how much my derriere hurts. Another good thing about hills is that what goes up must come down and riding downhill is fantastic. The view is usually great and the wind in your face is usually quite refreshing after an uphill climb. The wind though doesn't have either of these positive points. Additionally, it is also relentless. There is never a break from the wind. So on days like today when there's a lot of climbing and rolling hills, you think you'll get a little break when you're going down or on the flats, but no. The wind has other plans. To torture you. And break you.

But today I won. Me = 1, Winds = 0. Tomorrow, who knows?

The other notable part of today's ride was the change in scenery. The last four or five days we've been in the desert. Today we climbed and actually made it high enough to smell pine trees and see loads of them too. It was significantly cooler up there as well. As we came down the mountain the change in scenery was stark. We're not back into desert, which is awesome, but it definitely because much less green and much more rocky. And much hotter. We'll see what tomorrow brings but I think we all enjoyed the change in scenery and are ready for more.

Tonight we're staying in another school. These schools are turning out to be awesome. For one, it's always intersting to see how different and similar high schools are from town to town. For two, it definitely brings back memories for everyone. For three, they are usually large and there is no one else around which means we can be as noisy as we like. In fact, here in Nevada, or at least this part of Nevada, they don't even have school on Fridays. Which was great this morning because it meant we didn't need to be out by a certain time. And it was nice this afternoon, because there was nothing going on in the high school that we had to wait to finish before we could set up camp.

Right now we're using the high school's internet and they block a lot of site (like facebook and certain blogs) so there may not be much activity from us tonight besides this. Tomorrow we roll into Cedar City which seems a little bigger so hopefully you'll get some updates then and check out the changing scenery.
